Reviews for Coby TF-DVD1591 15-Inch LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Electronics) I've received two of these now and the DVD Player has not worked in either one. The first one just clicked. The second one just clicked and then spit the DVD out saying no disc. I also received a Coby MP3 player that wouldn't even turn on. I don't believe this brand is a very good brand and will no longer buy it.
Reviews for Coby TF-DVD1591 15-Inch LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Electronics) We just got this TV yesterday, so I can't vouch for how long it will last, but it seems like a really nice set. It's a nice size for the counter where we put it and it doesn't take up a whole lot of space like our other TV did.
My problem is that we have AT&T Uverse in our house and it requires all of our sets to operate with a converter box. There's a remote that goes with the box and on all of our other TVs the remote is set to operate both the box & the TV, so having the box is not a big deal. I tried to set up the AT&T remote for the Coby TV and it wouldn't work. After some looking on the web, it appears that Coby sets will not work with universal remotes. Someone online said Coby that the sets are designed to only work with their remotes because universal ones might not provide all of the functionality. I think I would classify that as "spin." Too bad Coby is shooting themselves in the foot on this one. It's a nice set, but so many systems require the use of a universal remote these days, so I can't really recommend the set.
Reviews for Coby TF-DVD1591 15-Inch LCD TV with Built-in DVD Player (Electronics) I bought this set in December 2007 for my daughter's use at college - it has a nice design, good feature set, a bit expensive for the size but perfect for a dorm room.
We loved it - until June 2008 when it began acting up - it "locks up" while viewing, one minute it works fine, the next you can't change the channel, adjust the volume or even turn it off via the remote or the on-set buttons. The only thing to do is to cycle power. It then works fine for a while longer until the problem repeats. Over time, performance degraded to the point where it locked up in a matter of minutes.
A call to Coby reveals the 90 day labor / 1 year parts warranty really means that there is no warranty after 90 days. Coby recommends taking it to an electronic service shop for repair at your expense - "you are outside the 90 day warranty period, Coby has nothing to do with it at this point." The local shop charged $50 for the evaluation, then estimated another $120 for the repair. Might as well buy a new set and junk it!
In sum, a cute TV while it's working but beware the warranty.
